Conducting Investigations and Holding Disciplinary Hearings

Date: 25th April 2018 from 9.00 to noon (coffee break included)

Speakers: Dr. Roselyn Borg, 21 Law and Mr Michael Fenech founder IdeasAlive

Price: €55 per person

This workshop focuses on how to hold and manage a fair investigation. Normally investigations are held as a fact finding exercise in order to establish whether a disciplinary hearing should be held. A poor investigation may lead to a wrong decision, including a claim for unfair dismissal.

Conducting a disciplinary hearing may be daunting. Getting it right and deciding on the right outcome is crucial. In this workshop we will deal with this topic in an interactive manner ensuring participants learn the key techniques.
The aim of the workshop is to ensure that all the correct steps are being followed and that the procedures are done fairly and effectively. Case studies and practical examples will be part of this workshop.

Michael Fenech will deal with the importance of communicating assertively when holding such important and sensitive meetings. Communicating assertively can help us to express ourselves in a clear, direct and appropriate way, without undermining our own or others’ rights.

Date: 23rd May 2018 from 9.00 to noon (coffee break included)

Speakers: Dr. Roselyn Borg, 21 Law  and Mr. Martin Borg

Recruiting within the parameters of the law is a must. Roselyn will focus on the legal aspect of the recruitment process – the do’s and don’ts of this process. Participants will be able to apply the law correctly throughout that recruitment process.

However selecting the right candidate is also paramount. Martin will focus on the recruitment interview dealing with the importance of assessing skills, experience and general background of job applicants. Participants will be better equipped to making better decisions on which candidate is the most suitable for the particular role.

Social Media and BYOD: the love/hate relationship!

Speakers: Dr. Roselyn Borg, 21 Law

Social media and Bring Your Own device activities come with benefits for companies however they also come with a number of risks and headaches.

There is no one size fits all solution however employers will need to decide whether to embrace the technology that employees want or whether to prohibit this or perhaps find an ideal compromise.

This workshop will deal with these two topics in a hands on manner, and real cases shall be discussed.
Furthermore the workshop will outline what needs to be included in the necessary policies.
